There is a moment — usually around 2am, somewhere between Ras El Hekma and Sidi Heneish, with the Mediterranean lapping 50 metres away and a DJ playing to a crowd that has traveled from across Egypt, the Gulf, and Europe — when you realize that Sahel is no longer just a beach escape. It has become one of the most remarkable music destinations in the world.
Each year, as June arrives and Cairo empties toward the coast, Egypt's North Coast comes alive with something far bigger than a seasonal holiday. The stretch of crystalline water and white sand west of Alexandria — known simply as Sahel (Arabic for "coast") — hosts an increasingly serious international electronic music circuit, drawing globally recognized DJs and party series that also appear in Ibiza, Berlin, New York, and Mykonos.
What makes Sahel remarkable is the combination: world-class production values, open-air Mediterranean settings, a young and passionate crowd, and a festival infrastructure that has matured dramatically over the past decade. This is the guide you need to understand it.
What is Sahel season?
Sahel is the collective name Egyptians use for the North Coast — the stretch of coastline running roughly from Alexandria westward past El Alamein toward Marsa Matrouh, hugging the Mediterranean Sea. For decades it was Egypt's premium summer escape, a place of private beach compounds, luxury resorts, and family holidays. The sand is white, the water is turquoise, and the sun is relentless.
Then, gradually, the nightlife followed the lifestyle. Beach clubs opened inside the gated resort compounds. DJs began playing sunset and late-night sets. International promoters noticed that an audience of educated, well-traveled Egyptians and Gulf visitors was hungry for the same experiences available in Ibiza or Tulum — and that this audience was arriving in numbers reaching into the hundreds of thousands each summer weekend.
Today the season runs from late June through early September, peaking in July and August. The best parties sell out. Tickets to headline events go within hours. And the names on the flyers — Solomun, Black Coffee, Bedouin, The Martinez Brothers, Adriatique — are the same names appearing at ADE, DC-10, and Fabric.
The key venues
The Sahel music scene is spread across several distinct resort areas, each with its own character and cluster of venues. Knowing the geography is half the battle.
-> ESCĀ Beach Club, LYV Caesar & Playa:
One of Sahel's most prestigious electronic music venues. Known for internationally curated programming — All Day I Dream, IN ACT, and major house and techno bookings have all called it home.
-> Kiki's Beach Bar, Hacienda White & Heneish:
Two locations, both with a reputation for high-energy international bookings. Folamour, Caiiro, and All Day I Dream have all played here. Kiki's is synonymous with a certain blend of Afro-house and deep house sophistication.
-> D-Bay, Dabaa:
The venue most associated with the deep house and techno end of the spectrum. Bedouin's beloved "sonic sandstorm" found its Sahel home here, as did Solomun's historic season-closing sets.
-> Surf Club North Coast:
A high-energy venue with a strong reputation for house music. CamelPhat delivered a celebrated sunrise-to-sunset set here. Shimza is among those who have headlined its 2026 season.
-> Almaza Bay Club & The Tap North, Almaza Bay
Almaza Bay hosts some of Sahel's finest trance and electronic events. The Tap North brings its famous Cairo gastropub energy to the coast with a mix of local and international acts throughout the summer.
-> Sol Beach, North Coast
A stylish beachfront stage that has hosted The Martinez Brothers, among others. Its open-air setup and proximity to the sea make it one of the most atmospheric venues on the coast.

Planning your Sahel season:
Book early
Headline events at D-Bay, ESCĀ, and Kiki's routinely sell out within days of announcement. Follow venues and promoters — particularly P+US, byGanz Extraordinaire, and the venue accounts directly — on social media for early access and pre-registration announcements.
Where to buy tickets
The main ticketing platforms for Sahel events are Ticket Egypt (ticketegypt.venflare.com) and Ticketsmarché (ticketsmarche.com). Some events offer direct pre-registration through venue Instagram pages.
Getting there
Most Sahel venues are located along the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, between km 100 and km 220. The drive from Cairo takes between 2 and 3 hours depending on the specific resort. Many visitors rent for the full summer; others drive up for weekend events.
Sahel has stopped being a secret. The same artists who play Fabric and DC-10 now have Egyptian tour dates. The same party series that defined Brooklyn rooftops and Ibiza sunsets have found a Mediterranean home on Egypt's North Coast. For anyone who loves electronic music — and who also happens to want white sand, warm water, and a crowd that dances like it means it — the answer has been here all along.
